About the Event
Schools can ONE or TWO teams of 8 children from Year 3/4. Ideally there will be a mix of genders in each team, but this is not a requirement.
The focus is on competitive opportunity rather than competitive outcomes. Children will be rewarded for demonstrating good personal and social skills, good movement skills as well as their rugby skills. The morning will consist of the team moving around a carousel of skills based activities, spending approximately 8-10 minutes on each one. These will be selected from the following
● Rugby Rounders
● Rob the Nest
● Tag Rugby 4 v 4
● Ball Touch
● Hares and Hounds
● Statues
● End Ball
● Breakout Tag
Descriptions can be found at our website primary resources section. https://www.letsgetahead.co.uk/primary-events.
In the afternoon games of Tag Rugby will be organised on small pitches. These will be in teams of 8 but 6 players will be on the pitch at one time. This will allow rotation of players and rest periods for all players. This will develop their catching, passing, evading skills practiced in the morning carousel and going forward with the ball and support. All equipment will be provided, but it may be useful if schools have their own tags and belts to bring them along. Activities will de supervised by student leaders from local secondary schools and/ or colleges.
